title: Your site
description: Addresses, domains, languages, branches, previews, and site-wide details.
---

Every Vizitka site has an address such as `your-name.vizitka.page`. On a plan
that includes one, you can also connect a domain you own. When the custom
domain becomes active, visitors use it as the main address and the Vizitka
address redirects there.

## What visitors see

Visitors only see what is live. Every change to your site's code, yours on the
dashboard or your coding agent's, goes on a branch first, and the live site
changes only when a branch is merged or somebody with
[git access](/dashboard/account/#git-access) pushes to `main`. The dashboard and
your coding agent can open a private preview of a branch at the site's
preview address, such as `preview--your-name.vizitka.page`.

A merge puts everything on the branch live at once: pages, shared page
sections, your tables, the site's stylesheet, shared translations, and the site's own
JavaScript files and import map. Your own changes go on a branch called
`draft`, which you merge from the banner on [Pages](/dashboard/pages/) or from
[Branches](/dashboard/branches/), where an agent's branches wait for you too.
Discarding a change puts back what visitors already see. Earlier versions stay
in each page's history, and restoring one is a change like any other: it goes
live when you merge.

Posts and the rows in your tables don't use branches. Each table has a rule
for which of its rows are out (see
[Database](/dashboard/database/#showing-a-row-on-your-site)): a post goes out
on its own published date unless you change that, and a row of most other
tables as soon as it is saved.

## Languages

One page can serve as many languages as your [plan](/dashboard/billing/)
allows. The default language keeps the ordinary
path, such as `/services`. Every other language uses a prefix, such as
`/uk/services`. The Languages screen appears only when the site has more than
one language.

A visitor who opens a language-prefixed address gets that language. An address
without a prefix can follow the visitor's language. Your agent adds or removes
languages because it must update the words and links at the same time.

## Details shared by every page

The Site screen holds the site's name, description, sharing picture, author,
theme colour, and other details used in browser tabs, search results, and
shared links. A page may provide its own details when it needs to differ.

You can also ask search engines not to list the whole site. Use that while a
site is not ready to be found, then switch it off when it is.

Next, choose [how you want to build your site](/build-your-site/).
